Lexington + Whatevski: Buy
Chances are, if you're listening to Lexington + Whatevski's 2005 release, "Over It", your feelings will be hurt. That is because you don't understand humour. So go work on that and come back in six months or when you think you're ready.
You probably haven't heard anything like this before. They will go from encouraging you to commit suicide to political issues to the twisted reality of love/lust bringing a tongue-in-cheek vibe and brutal delivery that suits the atmosphere of the album.
"Rap music, thats my f**king work, I want full-time with benefits and perks." Whatevski.
Most of the production (including mixing and mastering) is handled by Whatevski with Lexington in the back seat yapping in his ear. The album also includes two Lexington beats, one by Olive Hour's Decline and another by Vancouver's Imaginations Treetrunk, Aalo Guha. Whatevski brings the grit hes known for from previous releases such as Planit's, "Onword" and Jonny Sootentai's "From Classrooms to Cubicles". The duo combines new school lyricism with production that takes it back to the essence of hip hop, relying on that warm sound of sampled vinyl loops. The aggressive delivery of these rappers works extraordinarily well with the hard hitting beats, the messages are clear and precise, punch lines cut, chorus swing and the commentaries are executed with on-point delivery.
"The scene! Its like war in the Middle East, we fight the war like they were right before. This is hip hop, forgot what you're fighting for? Its so ironic, we still say peace!" Lexington.
